What is NOT one of the responsibilities of individual IACUC members?

Individual IACUC members have a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the ethical and humane treatment of animals used in research. One key aspect of their role involves understanding animal issues that may impact protocol assessments, actively participating in discussions to evaluate protocols, and attending semiannual program and facility reviews to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

Drafting animal research proposals, however, is not a responsibility typically held by IACUC members. This task is usually the responsibility of the researchers or investigators conducting the studies, as they are in the best position to outline their specific research goals, methodologies, and protocols. The primary function of IACUC members is to review these proposals to assess their ethical implications and adherence to regulations rather than to create the proposals themselves. Thus, the act of drafting proposals falls outside the defined scope of an IACUC member's responsibilities.
